Wvi informs, advises and guides the municipalities in their environmental and nature policy. That is part of our public role. The municipalities are confronted with increasingly complex regulations, which continuously create new tasks and subsidy possibilities for them.
With our multidisciplinary team of experts, we closely monitor the changes and inform ourselves thoroughly regarding the new policy initiatives, so that we can quickly and effectively inform, advise and guide the municipality. We have built up substantial experience and wide expertise in that area.
We have extremely wide-ranging tasks which consist of:
• providing advice regarding (among others) VLAREM (Flemish Regulation on Environment Permits), VLAREBO (Flemish Regulation on Soil Remediation) and the handling of environmental complaints
• guiding the municipalities with respect to the cooperation agreement with the Flemish government ‘Environment as a step towards Sustainable Development’
• drawing up policy-preparation studies: environmental programmes, environmental policy plans, reduction plans for pesticide usage, slow traffic road schemes
• execution of tasks in the integrated water policy: water survey, water management plans, evaluation of zoning plans, guidance for the municipal sewerage and purification policy
• implementation of measures for sustainable development
• drawing up studies related to nature, landscape, forests and green areas
• making available intermunicipal environmental officers (IGMA) and sustainability officers (IDGA)
• organising the regional discussion on environmental responsibilities of municipalities.
